Alla francesca was founded in the early 1990s as an ensemble of chamber music dedicated to very ancient music in its diversity. Its repertoire ranges over the art of solo singing—monody or polyphony—and instrumental music, from the songs of the first troubadours (late xith century) to the art of the Renaissance (xvith century). The ensemble also quite regularly looks into the connections between these repertoires and some types of living musical traditions.

Alla Francesca regularly features in the greatest international festivals of early music and performs worldwide.

Under the direction of Brigitte Lesne, it here releases its eighteenth recording, the first one on the Paraty label.

Brigitte Lesne, singer, is the director of the Alla francesca and Discantus ensembles, both of them specialized in medieval music.

She also performs in various recital formations (solo, duets, trios…) and accompanies herself on various instruments, medieval harps and percussions. She is deeply involved in artistic transmission and leads advanced workshops by subject every year at the Paris Centre for Medieval Music. Since 2012 she has taught the Gregorian repertoire and early polyphonies to B.A. students (« Music, Interpretation and Heritage » at the Versailles conservatoire), and since 2019 to M.A. students (« Performing styles of early music » at the Sorbonne university). Lastly, she is ever more frequently called upon as an expert to devise and lead projects with vocal ensembles, choir schools, conservatoires, universities, choirs…
