First reflection of humanity, essence of life, freed of cultures and borders, universal and timeless, Breathing runs as the root of this album. At the center, It is the raw material. It unfolds its palette to bring colors, textures and flexibility to the sound. Its life-giving power animates the Recorder and its original score, but also the Kawal flute, the Irish flute and the Transverse flute ones.
The repertoire of this album is an eclectic body. It includes sounds which go from the Middle Ages to contemporary eras, from traditional to classical music. Although, that duality does not really seem obvious here. There is a very precise combination of the work of Jacob Van Eyck, well known flutist from northern Europe in the 17th century, that represents a precious testimony of the diminutions and improvisations of that time. The three pieces chosen from his collection Der Fluyten Lust Hof sure illustrate it well: the pieces swing among lightness, spirituality and joy.
