Obsessions – Pauline Klauss, solo violin
“With your violin and the music of Bach, you will never be alone…”
These words, written by Christiane Courtade on my score during my first lesson on Bach’s Sonatas and Partitas, still resonate today. At the age of 11, I already felt a decisive turning point opening before me—a door to another world where the violin would become the messenger of a vital and almost mystical connection to music.
In this album for solo violin, guiding figures and repertoires intertwine: Bach, Ysaÿe, Schubert and Ernst engage in an inner dialogue where humanism and musical discipline merge. The rigorous and inspired teaching of my mentors, the polyphony of the Maîtrise, the fantastic gallop of The Erlking… all of this has shaped my approach to these works, which over time have become inseparable from life itself.
Two contemporary pieces by Franco-Peruvian composer Juan Arroyo extend this quest: Dormiveglia, an exploration of the borderlands of dreaming, and Paralelo, a meditation on the traces Bach has left in musical memory. Rooted in both heritage and creation, this album celebrates the violin as a faithful companion and a conduit for universal emotions.
