Arsys Bourgogne / Mihály Zeke

Directed by the young conductor Mihály Zeke, Arsys Bourgogne is a vocal ensemble whose mission is to perform everything from early choral music to contemporary compositions. Founded in 1999 by Pierre Cao, who conducted the ensemble for 15 years, Arsys Bourgogne has a rich history filled with quality and excellence. The ensemble is comprised of 8 to 16 singers and takes on six centuries of a cappella vocal repertoire as well as choral works with orchestra.

Since taking on the artistic direction in 2015, Mihály Zeke has brought Arsys Bourgogne into new and original choral music experiences. He is interested in forging links between Early and New music by creating strong relationships with today’s composers, such as Alexandros Markeas and Benoît Menut.

From Claudio Monteverdi to Olivier Messiaen, through Johann Sebastian Bach Giacinto Scelsi and Philippe Hersant, Arsys Bourgogne’s programs showcase composers from different eras in order to bring a new sense of meaning to each work. The ensemble also proposes new multidisciplinary programs that have elements of dramaturgy and staging. With a rich history of performing oratorios, Arsys pursues collaborations with well-known ensembles such as La Fenice, Les Surprises and accentus. These joint efforts enhance and expand the ensemble’s repertoire and allow for performances of works such as the Monteverdi Vespers, Handel’s Dixit Dominus or Mozart’s Vesperae solennes de confessore.

Arsys Bourgogne is strongly committed to pedagogical activities and provides professional development to young singers who are enrolled in Music Conservatories or Écoles Supérieures de Musiques, such as the ESM Bourgogne-Franche-Comté.

Arsys Bourgogne rehearses and performs regularly in Vézelay with rehearsals open to the public and concerts in the Rencontres Musicales de Vézelay. Since 2015, Arsys Bourgogne has become a part of the «Public Establishment, La Cité de la Voix.

Arsys Bourgogne is supported by the Regional Council of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, the Ministry of Culture and Communication (DRAC Bourgogne-Franche-Comté) the Departmental Council of the Yonne.

After studying at the academies of Drancy, Sceaux and the 6th arrondissement of Paris, Isabelle Durin entered the CNR of Versailles as a student of Alexandre Brussilovsky. She won her highest tribute as a violinist receiving her gold medal in 1996.

She studies for one year with Antoine Goulard, and later entered in 1997 the CNSM in Lyon in the class member of Jean Estournet and Kaziemierz Olechovski. In the same instance, Isabelle also obtained a Doctorate in philosophy in La Sorbonne.

In 1999, Isabelle toured the European round with Gustav Malher Jugend Orchester, under the baton of Franz Welser-Möst. In 2001, she obtained the DNESM of Lyon. In the same year, she was selected for the master’s class of Shmuel Ashkenasi, at the Schleswig Holstein Muzik Festival of Lübeck. She advanced to a new level after studying with well-renowned violonists including Jean-Pierre Sabouret, Boris Garlitsky, Igor Volochin, Patrice Fontanarosa and Roland Daugareil. She continued her pursuit of chamber music under the direction as of Alain Meunier and Michel Strauss.

She became a member (2003) of the Orchestre National d’Ile-de-France, led by Yoel Levi and now Enrique Mazzola. Followed shortly after, in December 2003 she received a bronze medal of Société d’Encouragement au Progrès at the Senate.

Isabelle Durin actively performs chamber music concerts, with special arrangement in duet violon/piano in France and abroad. She appeared as a special guest in Vietnam in 2004 and 2006, at the grand Opera and l’Espace-Centre Culturel of Hanoi.

For the past four year (2002) she has been the Artistic director of the festival musical du château de la Légion d’honneur de Pouy-sur-Vannes (Aube),  now, the “Harmonies Estivales” à Villeneuve l’Archevêque (89).

After the release of her record, “Romantisme Hébraïque” (Jade Records/Universal) with Michaël Ertzscheid, pianist, she is able to occur in France, in particular to the Museum of Art and History of the Judaism, to the Memorial of Shoah, to The synagogue ULIF of Copernic in Paris, in the community centers of Strasbourg, in the festival of Jewish music of Carpentras, as well as abroad, to the Jewish Museum of Prague ( Spanish Synagogue), to the Jewish Museum Galicia of Cracow, with the cooperation of the French Cultural centers of these two cities, in Zagreb with the support of the Jewish Community of Zagreb, in Geneva (Synagogue Beth Yacov), in Rumania with the support of the French institutes Cluj, Timisoara and Iasi. We occurred in April, 2011 in United-States and in Colombia, within the framework of the artistic tours organized by the General Delegation of the French Alliances in the United States.

Romanian pianist Mara Dobresco was noticed by the concert-going public and media early on for her playing which is full of character, and for the finesse and elegance of her phrasing. A child prodigy, she first performed with orchestra at age 11. The winner of numerous international competitions, she received scholarships from the Yamaha, Meyer, Tarazzi and Nadia and Lili Boulanger Foundations.

Her many recordings have been lauded by the press, who have compared her to Argerich and Arrau. Consequently, she received the advice and support of Martha Argerich and Dominique Merlet, as well as Jean-Claude Pennetier and Pierre-Laurent Aimard, with whom she has performed four-hand repertoire.

Dobresco has given recitals in France, Romania, Spain, Italy, Germany, Austria, Bulgaria, Russia, Argentina, Australia and Japan, and gave début recitals in Chicago and New York. At the same time, she has made recordings for Radio France, Swiss Radio, and Romanian national radio and television. She was also invited by film director Radu Mihaileanu to record the soundtrack for his film The Concert (2009) featuring Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 21 under the direction of Adrian Prabava.

In France, Dobresco is often invited to play recitals and chamber music with the best musicians of her generation in the most prestigious venues, such as the Cité de la Musique, Théâtre du Châtelet, Musée d’Orsay, Salle Cortot, Théâtre Mogador, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Théâtre de la Monnaie, and the Centre for Fine Arts in Brussels, as well as the Grand Théâtre de Provence, the Festival d’Aix en Provence, the Chopin Anniversary at the Tarmac de Châteauroux and the Salle Pleyel, at the Nohant Festival, at the Chopin Festival at l’Orangerie de Bagatelle, at the Musée Jacquemart- André, at the “Classique au Vert » Festival.

A fervent interpreter of contemporary repertoire, she collaborates regularly with numerous composers: Philippe Hersant, Franck Villard, Philippe Leroux, György Kurtág as well as Oscar Strasnov, who has dedicated several of his pieces to her. Mara Dobresco is also interested in the dramaturgy of musical gesture, and has participated in multiple projects based on the intersection between theatre, literature and music. She is a member of Quatuor Face à Face (2 pianists, 2 percussionists), founded 10 years ago, which gives concerts in many of the world’s largest concert halls, characterised by great virtuosity, a strong identity and a spectacular stage presence.

A graduate of the George Enesco Music School in Bucharest under the tutelage of Gabriela Stepan, Dobresco received a French government bursary which enabled her to pursue her studies at the Paris Conservatory (CNSM) under Gérard Frémy. She was awarded a First Prize for Piano, a First Prize for Vocal Accompaniment and a Chamber Music Prize. She later returned to the Paris Conservatory for graduate studies with Théodore Paraskivesco. Mara Dobresco also holds a Master’s Degree in Contemporary Music from the Geneva Conservatory.

Since his first piano lessons at the age of 7, Stéphane Orlando has been composing and improvising music. He began studying at the Royal Conservatory of Mons (Conservatoire Royal de Mons) at the age of 15. After having studied piano, music writing and analysis, he won first prizes in counterpoint and then fugue at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels (Koninklijk Conservatorium van Brussel). During this period, he also studied musicology at the Free University of Brussels (Université Libre de Bruxelles).

In November of 2001, he became an improviser at the Royal Film Archive of Belgium (Cinematek), providing accompaniment for over 500 silent films.

Former President of the Belgian Society for Musical Analysis and President of the Belgian Composers Forum, he is also one of the creators of the BSCG, the Belgian Screen Composers Guild.

Stéphane Orlando divides his time between music composition, his improvised concerts, and the teaching of composition, improvisation, piano, music history and computer music.

Trio Kaldei

The Khaldei Trio brings together Barbara Baltussen (piano), Pieter Jansen (violin) and Francis Mourey (cello), three musicians with a passion for chamber music and, more speci cally, the unique sonority of the piano trio.

Since its rst concert in 2011, the Khaldei Trio has developed from a young, promising ensemble to a crowd favourite on Belgium’s biggest stages. In 2013, the trio was one of the six ensembles nominated for the rst edition of the Supernova competition. Over the last few years, the trio has performed in many cultural centres throughout the country, in prestigious venues such as the Centre for Fine Arts (Brussels), AMUZ (Antwerp), De Bijloke (Ghent) and the Concertgebouw in Bruges, as well as at numerous festivals in Belgium and abroad, including the Ghent Festival of Flanders, Festival 20/21, En avant Mars, the Spectrum Festival (Slovenia) and the Arsana Festival (Slovenia). The trio has also recorded for Belgian stations Canvas (television) and Klara (radio) and the Slovenian National Radio.

The Khaldei Trio has a particular a nity for Russian music from the rst half of the 20th Century, especially music by Shostakovich. The trio’s namesake, Evgueni Khaldei, was o cial photographer of the Stalin regime, and created striking portraits of all the great Russian artists of the time. The search for truth, authenticity and the nuances brought by this photographer to di cult moments throughout his life are a great source of inspiration for the trio.

The Khaldei Trio likes to bring together music from times past and present in its programs, introducing the public to music by lesser-known composers as well as the great masters. The program Debuts o ers trios by Gaspar Cassadó and Gillis Sacré together with Shostakovich and Sibelius. In the program WWI, Debussy’s sonatas and Ravel’s masterly trio accompany a magni cent trio by Enesco.

Belgian music also occupies a special place in the Khaldei Trio’s repertoire. Works by Jongen, Celis, Van Landeghem and Brewaeys are to be found on the trio’s music stands. In March 2015, as part of the two concerts that the trio gave during the En Avant Mars festival in De Bijloke (Ghent), the trio played an entirely Belgian program, in which works by Buckinckx and Swerts featured alongside premières of works by Ruben De Gheselle, Mirek Coutigny and Gillis Sacré.

Viola Solo from the Paris National Opera Orchestra, Pierre Lenert is also laureate of the Markneukirchen International Instrumental Competition, Lionel Tertis, Maurice Vieux and the Autumn Festival of Young Interpreters.

Pierre Lenert is the only violist in Europe to have taken up the challenge to record the « 24 Caprices » of Niccolo Paganini in the viola version, since the integral made by Emmanuel Vardi in 1965 at Label Epic.

He is also Professor at the Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris.

Soloist and chamber musician, he is the guest of many international festivals such as BBC Proms, Schubertiades, Khumo, Gubio and the Marlboro festival.

His discography includes the complete work of Henry Vieuxtemps’s viola and piano work, as well as several recitals devoted to the music of Carl Reinecke, Niccolo Paganini and Felix Mendelssohn, Georges Enesco, Jean Françaix and Darius Milhaud.

Pierre Lenert is Artistic Director of the International Chamber Music Festival « SERENADE » as well as the Festival « LE GOUT DE LA MUSIQUE ».

By directing the Collection for Viola of Artchipel Music Publishing, as well as the Viola Music Collection of Livma Music Editions, Pierre Lenert enriches the repertoire of his instrument by discovering and rediscovering works originally written or transcribed for the viola.

Pierre Lenert plays the viola of Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume of 1865, « Comte Cheremetiev ».

Robin Pharo studied the viola da gamba with Jean Louis Charbonnier, Caroline Howald, Ariane Maurette and Christophe Coin, at the Music and Dance’s National Conservatory of Paris. He is a founder member of the Quartet Nevermind with whom he won the third prize and the special festival prize at the Van Wassenaer competition in Utrecht. In 2015, Nevermind has been invited to play all over Europe, in Iceland and USA and has recorded with Alpha Classic Label. He has already worked with conductors such as Sigiswald Kuijken, Paul Agnew and Olivier Schneebeli. He played with the actor Benjamin Lazar in the show L’Autre Monde ou les états et Empires de la lune and has been engaged in numerous early music bands such as La Grande Ecurie et la Chambre du Roy (Jean-Claude Malgoire), L’Ensemble La Rêveuse (Florence Bolton and Benjamin Perrot), L’Ensemble Desmarest (Ronan Khalil), L’Ensemble Gilles Binchois (Dominique Vellard), Le Chœur de Chambre de Namur, La Capella Mediterranea (Leonardo Garcia Alarcon ), L’Achéron (François Joubert-Caillet), l’Ensemble La Tempête (Simon-Pierre Bestion de Camboulas), Vox Luminis (Lionel Meunier)etc. … Passionate by the inventive music and the unlimited possibilities of the viola da gamba, Robin Pharo worked with Jazz band such as The Jungles Key and Note Forget the Project. He collaborates with the choregrapher Thierry Thieu Niang and composes the music of the show Au Cœur, programmed at the festival d’Avignon, in 2016. He works presently with contemporary composers such as Philippe Hersant (with whom he creates Hypnos), Rika Suzuki, Yassen Vodenitcharov and Jean-Marc Chouvel (with whom he creates Les Trois ailes du papillon). He also loves improvising in different styles, and in April 2012, he’s invited to accompany Bobby McFerrin, on the stage of Châtelet theater, in Paris.

For many years, Iranian pianist Layla Ramezan has been searching for and creating links between her Persian heritage and the contemporary music that is a part of her daily life.

As a concert pianist, Layla performs regularly in France and Switzerland, as well as in many places further afield. She has recently appeared in recitals at the Collège des Bernadins in Paris, Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Victoria Hall in Geneva, Royal Irish Academy in Dublin, Aga Kahn Museum in Toronto, Roodaki Hall in Tehran, Hafez Hall in Shiraz, and at major festivals such as the Athénéennes in Geneva, the Schubertiade in Sion and the Alba Music Festival in Italy. Her con-certs have been broadcast on Radio France, RFI, Radio Suisse Romande, NPO Radio Netherlands and CBC Radio Canada, Deutschlandfunk Kultur, WDR 3 Kultur and Norway Radio.

Along with her solo projects, Layla has had the privilege to work with many prominent musicians such as William Blank, Helmut Deutsch, Jean-Claude Pennetier and Philippe Albera and has per-formed with Jean-Marc Luisada, Eliane Reyes, Christophe Beau, Brigitte Balleys and Trio Chemi-rani . She has also worked closely with composers such as Tristan Murail, Luis Naon, Nicolas Bolens and Michael Jarrell.

As the pianist in the contemporary music ensemble “Matka” which is based in Geneva, she is the driving force behind several intercultural musical projects, bringing together Iranian, French, Swiss and American composers for global conferences, residencies and concerts. Layla was a member of the jury for the tenth edition of the Youth National Festival of Music in Tehran. She is a founder and the Artistic Director of the Barbad Piano Prize in Shiraz, Iran. As well as her interest in promot-ing her own cultural heritage, she has played for the United Nations in Geneva for a special event to raise awareness of violence against women organized by ten African ambassadors.

Layla is currently preparing a four-part CD series on the Paraty label for her project, 100 years of Iranian Piano Music. The first CD of this quartet, Iranian Composers from 1950, was released in January 2017 and the second one, Sheherazade has been released in May 2019.

Layla’s sound, her phrasing, her sensitivity to rhythm and a refined interpretation are the feature qualities of her piano playing. Her unique point of view has been formed by the intersection of two cultures, in both of which she feels comfortable. Layla is continually searching for new ways to ex-press herself by allowing the oriental and occidental influences to inspire and complement each other.

Layla started her piano studies in Tehran with Mustafa-Kamal Poutorab, Raphael Minaskanian and Debar Hakimova before moving to Paris in 2000 to study at the École Normale de Musique de Par-is “Alfred Cortot” with Jean Micault and Devi Erlih with a scholarship. She also studied with Jacquel-ine Bourgès-Maunoury and Christophe Bukudjian at the Conservatoire National de Saint-Maur des Fossés, where she obtained a diploma of Music Studies with high distinction. She then moved to Lausanne, Switzerland, where she currently lives, obtaining two Master’s degrees in Interpretation and Collaborative Piano from the Haute École de Musique with Christian Favre and Marc Pantillon.

Layla Ramezan is a Laureate of the Engelberts Foundation for Art and Culture in Switzerland and the Albert Roussel Foundation in France.
